SQL AI Assistant for database performance analysis

Mini DBA AI Assistant helps database teams move from a symptom to a focused investigation using the monitoring page they are already viewing. Ask your own question or start with a prepopulated question, then choose whether to include current metrics, sessions and alerts as evidence.

  • Investigate live performance issues, resource pressure, waits and blocking.
  • Analyse deadlocks, query behaviour and execution plans.
  • Summarise alerts and turn monitoring evidence into practical next steps.
  • Use the same workflow across SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle and Azure SQL.

The Assistant proposes explanations and investigation steps; you remain in control of any database change.

Ask better questions with relevant database context

Context is assembled from Mini DBA monitoring data, so the response can address the evidence on screen rather than offering generic database advice.

Prepopulated questions

Use Get Insights for an automatic performance question, or open the Assistant from a detail view with a question tailored to the selected alert, deadlock, query or execution plan.

Optional evidence

Choose whether to send metrics, live sessions and active alerts. Detail pages can also supply the selected query, plan, deadlock or other page-specific context.

Follow-up investigation

Ask follow-up questions in the same conversation to challenge an assumption, request supporting evidence or turn the first answer into a concise investigation plan.

Useful during real performance incidents

The Assistant is designed for the moment when a graph moves, an alert fires or a query suddenly becomes slow.

  • Ask which metric changes are most likely to explain a slowdown.
  • Identify the lead blocker and the sessions waiting behind it.
  • Explain a deadlock cycle and what each participant was doing.
  • Review expensive execution-plan operators, warnings and likely tuning priorities.
  • Compare live symptoms with the selected historical time range.
  • Create a handover summary for another DBA or support engineer.

Default AI or Bring Your Own AI

During the 14-day trial, or when the Console has at least one connected licensed Engine, the default Mini DBA AI service includes a daily allowance of 100,000 tokens per user. Usage is shown in the Assistant and the allowance resets each day.

A Console connected only to Community Edition Engines does not receive Mini DBA-provided tokens, but every user can configure Bring Your Own AI. If the same Console has a licensed Engine, its Mini DBA allowance can also be used when investigating the permitted Community Engine.

Bring Your Own AI uses your provider subscription and does not consume the Mini DBA daily allowance. Available provider options include:

  • OpenAI
  • Azure OpenAI, including supported Azure authentication choices
  • OpenAI-compatible APIs and internal model gateways
  • Local or self-hosted models through Ollama
  • Anthropic Claude

BYO AI settings belong to the individual browser user, making it possible for each person to use the provider, model and credentials appropriate for their work.
